Conditions are harsh in Bangladesh- the flow of sea water into rivers (from previous storm damage) has caused the land for crop growing to become SALTY and unfit for growing food.
155 million people need feeding in Bangladesh so for the past 3 years, innovative farmers have been using vertical gardens to turn a problem into a solution. The creative farmers allow further heavy rain to wash the salt from the soil which is then put into large pots and used to grow vegetables.
Creative vertical Gardens
When all you've got are a few sticks and pots, 'needs must'! This woman farmer in Chandipur village still grows hundreds of kilograms of vegetables in her home made vertical gardens each season even though she has little space and conditions are harsh. (Photo: A. Yee for VOA)
